During my childhood, I used to relish eating raw and fresh garden peas that we bought from the market. When peeling it off for cooking, atleast 10% would go into my stomach :-). That was the craze.
As we grew up, fresh raw garden peas became extremely expensive. We didn't even realize when the fresh garden peas were replaced by frozen peas and the raw peas were replaced by dry peas. Add to this, some scrupulous dealers in the market started adding coloring chemical agents to the peas to make it look green and fresh. This was hazardous to health. In my home, we started cooking the dried peas before using them in the dishes. These appeared to become soft when hot, but, once cooled down, became somewhat hard again. Softness was nowhere near what a fresh raw garden pea would be.
All this drove me to experiment and grow peas at home. Wanted to see what would be the produce when grown in a small pot and then replicate it in a slightly larger scale.
BTW, started a similar experiment with composting at home. To see how that started and the progress, go here - My first small scale composting experiment at home
So here goes. On 8th / 9th September 2015, I sowed a few dry pea seeds in a small pot. Started watering a bit and waited with bated breath for 4 days before I saw this :-)

4th day - 13 September 2015 |
I had myself never seen a pea sprout. I was super excited to see the new saplings. I showed it to my 2 daughters and they were equally excited too. My 2nd daughter now takes care of watering it everyday morning without fail.
And are they growing fast ? Check out the photos :-)
